Sexual Health: Cock Rings

Cock rings are used to restrict blood flow out of the penis, which creates sensations of tightness and pressure that many people find pleasurable. Although some people find that wearing a cock ring can make erections firmer or longer-lasting, we do not advise using cock rings to "cure" erectile difficulties without first consulting a physician. Because of individual anatomical differences, cock rings will not fit all people equally well, but here are our tips for putting on some of the different cock rings we sell.
Cock rings are usually worn at the base of the penis, behind the scrotum, although some people wear them around the shaft of the penis only. Most people find it easier to put on a cock ring when their penis is flaccid or not fully erect. You may want to trim or shave the hair around the penis base and/or scrotum to decrease the likelihood of catching hair in the ring or snaps. We recommend wearing cock rings for no longer than they are comfortable, or 20 minutes, whichever is shorter. If you're using a ring for the first time, you may want to remove it after five or ten minutes so you can become familiar with the various sensations cock rings provide.

Single-strap Cock Ring (adjustable):

Place behind the scrotum and fasten over the top of penis. Adjust for snugness. Because these are economical, easy to put on, and quickly removable if sensations become too intense, we often recommend these for men who are trying cock rings for the first time. These rings include the Leather Cock Ring, the Neoprene Cock Ring, and the Sean Michaels Love Ring.

Single Cock Ring (solid):

These should be used only by men experienced with other types of cock rings. When penis is soft, tuck testicles (one at a time), then penis, through the ring. Lubricant can be helpful in removing solid cock rings from an erect penis; ejaculation, cold water or an ice compress will reduce the size of an erection and may also aid in removal. We also recommend keeping a pair of blunt-tipped safety or paramedic scissors on hand to cut the ring, if necessary. To remove from a flaccid penis, push penis back through the ring and "untuck" testicles.

Testicle-spreader (Double Crown):

Place the longer strap behind scrotum and snap closed on top of penis, forming a ring. The short straps should be hanging down, behind scrotum. Snap each short strap to the ring, using one hand to hold a testicle and the other to bring strap between testicles to side of ring.

Ball-stretcher:

Place the longest strap behind scrotum and snap closed on top of penis. Pull testicles to the bottom of scrotum and snap the ball stretcher -- the widest piece of leather -- around the scrotum above testicles. Bring the thin strap between testicles and snap to the ball stretcher. Sensations of pressure can be increased by adding small weights or a leash to the attached D-ring.

Warning: do not use cock rings if you bleed easily or have a blood clotting disorder, if you are diabetic, or if you suffer from any peripheral vascular or nerve disease. Do not use these toys if you are taking anticoagulants, aspirin, or any other blood-thinning medication. In the event use causes discomfort or any unusual body changes -- including bruising, pain, bleeding or loss of sensation -- discontinue use immediately and check with a sex-positive physician. Do not place over sore, swollen, or infected areas or areas without sensation.

Metal Cock Rings

Metal cock rings are beautiful and elegant, but we recommend that they are used by experienced cock ring wearers only. Metal rings are not stretchy or adjustable, so please read the fitting instructions before using.

To ensure a correct fit: Measure yourself first by taking a string, slipping it behind your testicles and tug it around the top of your penis (where it meets your body). Mark where the string comes together—this measurement will give you your circumference. Now it’s time to get out your calculator! Divide by Pi (3.14) and this number will tell you what size fits you.

For example:
5.5” circumference = 11/4" diameter;
5.89” circumference = 1 7/8";
6.28” circumference = 2” diameter.
Tuck your testicles into the ring one at a time. Fold your penis down and while inserting the tip of the penis under the ring, pull the ring up towards your body. Make sure the fit is right (if it’s too large, it won’t restrict the blood flow enough; if it’s too small you won’t be able to get it on).

Make sure to use common sense, as metal rings don’t snap off. Take your time putting the ring on and off, and use a small amount of lube to help it glide over your skin. If you feel discomfort, remove the ring immediately.
